Education in Garland County


 

All of the school districts in the Garland County public school system are fully accredited by the North Central association of Secondary Schools.    Garland County has seven private and parochial schools, a community college and a technical institute. 

Cutter Morning Star (Pre-K to 12th Grade) is located at 2801 Spring Street in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  Projections show that Hot Springs will experience growth toward the east, so Cutter Morning Star expects a continued increase in enrollment which is currently at 720 students.  Over 75% of each graduating class has been attending the district for five years or more, which is a good indicator of community stability.  Classroom instruction centers on statewide guidelines and students' needs, and smaller classes allow more time for one-on-one instruction.  Arkansas Business & Economic Review showed the students in the top 15% in Arkansas in math and literacy scores.  Click here to visit their website for more information.

Fountain Lake School District (Kindergarten to 12th Grade) - located at 4207 Park Avenue, Hot Springs, Arkansas.  The Fountain Lake School District has built a reputation on its commitment to incorporating technology across the curriculum and across grade levels.  Currently, over 300 computers are linked to the district's fiber optic network.  Instructional software programs are used to supplement the curriculum at all grade levels:  individual and whole group instruction and research are available in four computer labs:  keyboarding, business applications, multimedia and desktop publishing classes are taught in high school technology labs.  Click here to visit their website for more information.

Jessieville School District (Pre-K to 12th Grade) - located at 7900 N. Hwy 7, Jessieville, Arkansas.  With a student-staff ratio of 7-1, the Jessieville School District has consistently performed above the state average on standardized tests.  The needs of all students are met through gifted and talented programs, remediation classes, vocational/technical programs, and special education services.  Art and music are offered at all grade levels and four computer labs plus a Distance Learning Lab and an East Lab provide technology training for K-12.  Over 200 community volunteers work with Jessieville students through the Tutoring Center and in classrooms each year.  Click here to visit their website for more information.

Lake Hamilton School District (Kindergarten to 12th Grade) - located at 300 Wolf Street in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  This is a growing school district that treasures and maintains its small school heritage and values. Lakeside School District (Kindergarten to 12th Grade) - located at 2847 Malvern Avenue in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  Lakeside is one of the top ten school districts in the state of Arkansas.  The district was chosen for the 2006-2007 Golden Apple Award, a respected award based on scores from state-mandated testing.  Lakeside has also been honored with three national awards in the past two years.  The "Just For Kinds Award" by the National Center of Educational Accountability and the "What Parents Want Award", which is given to only 16% of the nation's 15,573 school districts.  Click here to visit their website for more information.

Mountain Pine School District (Kindergarten to 12th Grade) - located at 726 Blakely Mountain Dam Road in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  The faculty and staff of the Mountain Pine School District provide high quality and varied educational opportunities to approximately 630 students.  The district offers a relatively low pupil to teacher ratio with individualized and personalized instruction for all students.  Of the current 58 certified staff members, 22 have Masters and two have a Doctorate.  Mountain Pine students regularly exceed the state average on mandated test scores.  Click here to visit their website for more information.

Arkansas Career Training Institute - located at 105 Reserve Street in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  Vocational training programs include auto collision repair, auto maintenance tech, building trades, business education, certified nursing attendant, cosmetology, environmental system services, food services, marketing & sales, printing, small engine repair, welding, etc.  All programs are ongoing in nature and the length of each course is based on students meeting specified educational and physical qualifications.

Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts (ASMSA) - located at 200 Whittington Avenue in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  ASMSA is the premier high school in the state.  A public residential high school for academically advanced juniors and seniors.  ASMSA is known nationally for preparing its students to succeed in college and beyond.  All courses are taught at a college level using only college textbooks, and the highly qualified faculty challenges students to maximize their potential.  ASMSA annually ranks in the top 1% of all high schools in the nation on the ACT.  Click here to visit their website for more information.
